Our Story

HOW WE GOT STARTED

Deeter Custom Saddlery was born from a lifelong passion for leatherwork, shaped by Shane Deeter’s early years on a ranch in rural Utah. Growing up, Shane was captivated by the strength and artistry of the leather goods essential to ranch life, from saddles to boots. His fascination grew into a craft under the guidance of his father, who tooled belts and wallets, sparking Shane’s dedication to leatherworking as early as age five. In 1987, Shane’s father opened a boot and saddle repair shop, where Shane honed his skills and learned the value of well-made, functional leather goods.

By 1994, after years of custom leatherwork during his time at college, Shane established Deeter Custom Saddlery. What began as a way to fund his education became a full-time pursuit of craftsmanship in 2000. Now known for its durability, comfort, and artistic detail, Deeter Custom Saddlery reflects Shane’s commitment to creating leather pieces that stand the test of time.

At Deeter Custom Saddlery, we are passionate craftspeople dedicated to creating high-quality, functional leather art that celebrates the Western lifestyle. Specializing in handcrafted saddles and tack, our work combines traditional craftsmanship with artistic detail to create pieces that serve both form and function. Alongside saddles and tack, we craft personal leather goods like belts and wallets, using only the finest materials and a variety of techniques, from carving and sculpting leather to stitching artistic patterns with colored thread.
